Default Notepad2 For Coders

Anybody who is learning to code should look at Notepad2, it's a free program that will highlight code for you.

http://www.flos-freeware.ch/zip/notepad2.zip

As I said, totally free and simple to use, it can highlight many different forms of code and also gives you what number line etc you are coding on.

This is defiantly a great program for beginner coders.

For web development, I still recommend Dreamweaver as it gives you previews and a WYSIWYG editor - you can download the trial at adobe.com

I'm definitely going to have to recommend Notepad++ over Notepad2. Though your recommendation is very light and easy to use, Notepad++ is much more robust featuring all that Notepad2 has in addition to offering, what I see as the killer features, TABS!

I've been using it for so long now. I've done DreamWeaver, meh. Done Expression Web, meh. Nothing beats the ease of use in coding everything yourself. WYSIWYG is nice but not absolutely necessary. It's much more reliable to edit your code, and view it in an actual browser, especially when working with PHP or other scripts.

Expression Web is getting there though. Has the tabs, the languages, FTP management, etc. PHP support comes in Expression 2 so there's potential there. As for DreamWeaver... never been a fan. Always been the do it yourself coder.

Oh ya! Link! Notepad++ @ SourceForge.

Oh yah, I forgot about that one, I haven't used it since I don't know when, I'll download it later.

And VERY VERY VERY VERY true, nothing beats coding it from scratch - I actually prefer it because you always are amazed at the outcome and wonder how can typing gibberish (at least a lot of it is ) turn out such a good website, or service (whatever.)

Nothing like a good old cup of Java and some coding lol, lame but ya

Thanks, I'll check it out

You have 100 posts, sure you are totally exhausted.
Don't worry, it will take some time when I get 100 posts.

It's ok if you post it tomorrow or the day after that, no hurry.

Yup! C++ support for syntax highlighting. And about 50 other languages. Of course all the well known ones like html, javascript, css, php, perl, c, c++, c#, etc. But then there are some odd ones I've never heard of like INNO and Haskell. O__o

Lots of other features to. It's pretty customizable from choosing which filetypes to associate, some great built in scripts that do things like escaping ' to \', customization of the colors used in highlight syntax for each language... and wow so many lol.

Ever since I started using it I've just had no reason to use anything else. One feature I love is that it'll remember what files you have open in tabs when you close it and it will remember those and open 'em up the next time you use the program. Perfect for working on multiple files such as html, css, and js.
