An alternative to Trillian and Pidgin is Digsby!

Currently in an open beta, it features support for Windows Live Messenger (aka MSN), AIM, Yahoo! IM, Google Talk, Jabber, Facebook Chat, and ICQ.

However, in addition to instant messaging, Digsby also has support for MySpace and Facebook accounts as well as Twitter, and even email.

The interface is customizable as are the chat windows and as the software is in beta, more features arrive periodically. The most recent of which was Facebook Chat.

What's great about it being in beta is that the developers are actively collecting feedback and addressing bugs. If you support a bug report, expect a fix for it to come and be posted on their blog. Updates to the software are automatic whenever you launch Digsby so there's no need to load it up, have it tell you there's an update, then quit, download, and restart it. Additionally, the dev team also pushes out messages giving you a bit of info about what's going on.

When it comes to social networking, you get updates right from your desktop. Whenever you receive new friends requests, messages, etc., you can have Digsby popup a message. (Notifications are very customizable with sounds/popups). Additionally, if hover over your accounts or contacts, a popup will appear with additional information. MySpace and Facebook will show info about friends' status updates and news feed, respectively.

Email is a feature I haven't used too much, however. Whenever your receive new mail, Digsby will pop up a message saying as much (depending on your notification preferences) and clicking the link will open up your email in your default web browser.

All-in-all, Digsby is an excellent all in one client for the features listed above. The best part is that new features are sure to be added before the software is out of beta.

looks like a kool program. very much like pidgin. The thing that is pretty kool is that its offered for windows, linux, and mac. But i dont think mac users would use this since Adium beats all

it's very useful. i sent a question to them on their Twitter and they said they will work on adding Skype if possible.

Dun dun dun! It happened again. I submitted a bug report about when people send a request to add you to their contact list, it'll bring up a Ok or Cancel window but clicking Ok doesn't add them or authorize them the way it should and tada! Build 30 addresses it with a new authorization dialog.

I highly suggest anyone who uses more than one IM client to download Digsby, take it for a ride, and be sure to send the Digsby team some suggestions and any bug reports. They're totally committed to developing the best client possible!
