Send a message via AIM to JackalsNose
Default Pidgin

Of course everyone is familiar with the several different IM clients: Trillian, AIM, etc

My personal favorite is pidgin. The client is not headed with an ad like AIM and it does not have the bloatedness of Trillian. Personally, I've had a problem with the windows version of Pidgin only in that the spell check isn't working. I know it's a luxury, but I got accustomed to it in Ubuntu (which,in appearance, it looks better in as well)

You won't have to worry about the client inserting itself into your start-up processes, and it is very simple to utilize Buddy Pounces to message your favorite buddies as soon as they sign on. Logging is a very nice feature and organizing buddies by log size keeps your most talkative friends at the top of your list. You could also organize manually, but this would take too long for people with sizable buddy lists.

It's also pretty nice to have the ability to open up a new IM windows with Ctrl+M. Setting up escape as the close shortcut (in ubuntu pidgin) made my conversations in class much easier to conceal.

When I had Ubuntu installed on my laptop a while ago I tried Pidgin for a while~
It was really nice as an AIM alternative, which I can't stand. XD
Since I hardly ever used AIM beforehand and I didn't really talk to anyone on it I just stuck with IRC and XChat, though. (Whooo XChat~)
I do recommend this to anyone and everyone though! Go try it, you'll like it!

I have pidgin, and it is very handy for tying everything together, you might say. Because of the internet connection I use, Pidgin is often unable to get through, and after while starts sending back messages saying that it could not deliver the text that was originally typed in. Overall, however, I would recommend it to anyone with a decent internet connection

ya, pidgin is an awesome program. Im using it as i write I love the fact that you can have all your favorite messengers put together. Like aim, yahoo, icq, msn instead of having all those programs up at once, you can have just one. Another program that is like pidgin though is trillian. I also like trillian because not only does it combine it all, but you also have video chat there, and many other features that pidgin does not support or have yet.

I LOVE PIDGIN! I use on windows currently Skype, MSN and Yahoo all at once, I have tried GAIM, Trillion and I have to tell you, I prefer Pidgin the best! I found it on Ubuntu just a few weeks ago for the first time, I never had used it before or even heard of it. I downloaded it just a few hours ago (gah, 128kbps KILLS, yay, 24 hours to go 'til I get my speed back!) and I am going to install the windows version of it tomorrow.

PIDGIN FTW! 8-)

I haven't used Pidgin, but I have been using Digsby for a while now with good results. I am able to text on any system, including the new Facebook IM.

I have been using Pidgin from quite long time. I am very pleased with that we can login in messegner with one quality. There is only thing i don't like about Pidgin that it doesn't support webcam chatting. So if i have to go for video chat i use different application. There are quite good numbers of free video chatting software avaliable but it would have been great if Pidgin would offer video chat. I written my suggestion to them and got response that they will be working on this.
