Post Aol Instant Messenger

Out of many popular instant messaging programs MSN Messenger, Tripod, XFire and so on, my personal favorite has to be Aol Instant Messenger.

Although I don't explore many of the options available to it, it has presented a couple new things that I like about it. The first thing is the new tabbing feature which allows multiple IMs to be placed in one window. It used to be before that there would be a seperate window for each person you talked to and that became a hassle really quickly. Good thing because after you network in college you end up talking to alot of people.

Of course though, they went through many different other features throughout the years. Buddy Icons, Video, Talk, Expression and now I guess you can play mini-games.

I've been with AIM for a very long time now. I remember back when it first came out and girls asked me for my screenname and vice versa. How long ago was that now about 10 years? At least now I have a screenname I that I've stuck with leaving behind SSJ Gokou, MegamanZero and stuff like that.

AIM will always be installed and running on my laptop!

What about you... what's your favorite instant messaging program?

I don't know what version they are up to but AOL 6 is to heavy for my computer :-s it just slows it down to like, SERIOUSLY slow as in I can't move the mouse and when I do, it only moved a bit every second or two.

I used another version of AOL however, really basic, I still prefer Skype then Yahell and then MSN and THEN AOL due to the fact that I couldn't find it easy to navigate their site or have an option for a lighter version, plus it's America OnLine, not Australia OnLine, so I got my US mates to try a different messenger

You can't run it? System requirements are very low to run it. Even with 128MB of RAM you can run it, don't tell me you have less?

System requirements for AIM 6.5
• Windows 2K or higher
• IE 6.0 or higher
• 128MB RAM
• Macromedia Flash
• Microphone/Speaker or Headset for Talk functionality
• Broadband recommended for Live Video Chat

I guess AIM 6.0 requires less power of your machine...

Or do you mean lagg? If I sign in with MSN I take some well and blocks sometimes, because the connection isn't realy very well.

I can take a video if I find the installer, lol, I'm not joking.
I have XP SP2. Ie 7 1,536mb ram (mind you, sd-ddr, VERY old ram) Flash player 9 etc.
The actual program slows down my system if i remember correctly, unless it was just the program being painfully slow. I'll download it again and take a video. Hopefully won't be longer than 40 mins, I haven't got sound either.
This mind you was before the reformat.

EDIT:
Ach, it's already installed toolbars I didn't tell it to do that!!
And it crashed my firefox too
I already hate it.''(note ill merge post above soon, posted separately so you could be notified.)

I give up, their website sucks like hell, it keeps saying that my email is incorrect and that my varification code is incorrect, as for the software, I can't tell you if it's working or not.

What's with AOL looking like Yahoo? are they the same company?
Gah, I hate AOL with a passion now.

You need a verification code? I never used AOL so I don't know. Wow you have 1.5GB RAM. oO
Your computer can't be realy old then? I mean there was no 1.5GB five years ago, not below the $500. Or am I wrong?

Instead of downloading and using the AIM program from AOL, I prefer to use Meebo.com. It has an online messenger system that allows you to login to AIM,Yahoo, MSN, and Google Talk to talk to all your buddies in one window online! It doesn't require you to download any software either.

I bought the 1gb for $250 because some guy on ebay ripped us off the first time by sending us the wrong type of ram, so we had to go in stores, my comp is VERY old - hardware wise, it's SD-DDR ram - ancient and slow as heck.

Just wondering.

When you got ripped from ebay, why didn't you report that? that guy has to return you 5x or 3x of the money you payed him
