I love this thing to death. <3
It doesn't run at all on my laptop, and it only *barely* runs on my desktop, but it's really very shiny. It combines a bunch of my favorite little apps into one.
Does anyone have any favorite gadgets?

When you install Google desktop and try to add gadgets with that it will give you to choose from most popular gadgets. There are pretty good amount of Gadgets avaliable.
As far i am concerned, I use photo, Simple Calander, weather, cpu monitor, Ibnnews, Bbcnews.

i dont really like google gadgets. they seem to be workin a bit laggy on me. well everythings laggy but this seems worse

I don't use google desktop... I actually don't have any desktop search thing. *giggle*, But i do have google search bar on my browser though. Very useful because its like quicjk access to search results.

But now that your promoting it... It must be a worthwhile application =D i'll give it a try

you don't like google gadget or google desktop. If you don't like google gadget then its fine when you will install google desktop it will also let you add gadget from 3rd party. So if you don't like google gadget then you can always add different gadgets. but i will advice you to look review of that gadget before insataling into your system.

Google Desktop is nice... but I realized that the sidebar is pretty useless for me. Nice having the weather and a calendar there I suppose but I've since started using Outlook on the Desktop which puts the calendar (or contacts/email/tasks) right on your desktop with a setting for transparency. Also downloaded and installed Google Calendar Sync which keeps both my Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar synced so I can use either where ever.

The reason why desktop search doesn't cut it for me is because it is much too resource intensive and on top of that, I keep my folders pretty organized in My Documents. I use my desktop as a temporary landing spot but later delete or move files to where they belong.

It's much easier to know where you put everything so you know exactly where to go to find it instead of placing files where ever on your hard drive and then letting Google index it.

For the most part, I now see software such as Google Sidebar and Stardock Object desktop a bit unnecessary when it comes to streamlining productivity and efficiency on a computer.

Ever since I started using Launchy, I've been able to get rid of numerous shortcuts on my desktop as well as the quick launch bar. Using Taskbar Shuffle, I can orgainze my windows in the taskbar and even system tray icons to maximize organization when working.

It's so easy to buy into the intended usefulness of software such as Google Desktop, which may be useful, aren't entirely necessary if you can manage to keep your life and your computer organized.

I guess if you have windows vista, theres no point cause you can get the sidebar and all types of gadgets for it.
I just want the side bar to be half transparent even when its always on top! That would be great otherwise i can only see it in the desktop cause i don't like the full opacity when its always on top
