Default Office 2007

I really like Office 2007. Overall its a good program...in my opinion much better than the older versions of Office. In the 7 months or so that I have been using it, I have only found one problem with it and not sure if there is a fix for it out there or not. That is I'll be working on a project and it doesn't matter what program I'm using in the Office suite, it will suddenly pop up saying that its encountered an error and needs to close. It gets frustrating but luckily I haven't really lost any of my projects when this has happened, since Office has been able to recover them.

I tried running Office '07, it kept crashing and was really slow on my system, like, painfully slow when loading.

I like the new GUI but I hate the new menus, the new ones are nice, but I also want an option for drop down lists.

I'm sticking to Open Office, it's free and is fast and gets the job done quick and easy - even on my crappy pc

Yeah, I agree with you on the dropdown menus, but after using it for the past 7 months I've gotten used to the new Ribbon setup. I think I can actually find things quicker now then I could with previous versions of Office. I haven't really noticed any speed issues when running Office '07 unless I'm trying to do 10 different things at once.

I didn't tried to install it, simply because it looks better with the glossy Vista bars! Office 2007 in XP looks as futuristic software

Office 2007 has lots of features, but if I watch screenshots I can't see where to save files or open one?
Everything is changed of location. If I upgrade it would took some weeks to find everything back because I'm using Office 2002 now. Most icons are moved...

It sounds like you have an incompatible third-party application that's messing up a certain function in your Office 2007 suite. Several people have complained about the same thing you have and the causes are all over the board, the one thing in common being the fact that it has been the fault of anything from a printer driver to Norton AntiVirus! Try sifting through the results of the following Google search (click on the box below and it will bring up the Google search for you):

Code:
Office (word|excel|powerpoint) 2007 "has encountered a problem" -setup -2003 -site:experts-exchange.com

My personal opinion of Office 2007 is that it's a GREAT application! Very powerful and full of so much potential and productivity, it's not even funny. That being said, those of you using Office 2003 for novice/basic reasons won't find any good reason to update unless you feel like paying for a better-looking office. Beware that the user interface and usability is VERY different! Personally, I don't like the ribbon bar Microsoft decided in favor of, so I use a third-party application which emulates the Office 2003 Tools and Menus! There are a number of people who have created applications for this purpose; two of which are ToolbarToggle and Addintools. They aren't free but they're very affordable; especially if you want all of the functionality of Office 2007 but with the Office 2003 menus. Cool, huh?

The big Office logo button is where they have placed most of the File dialogue (save, open, etc.). If you want to try Office 2007 and get the hang of it while having the Office 2003 menus, try the Addintools tool that I linked to in my post above this one. It allows you to use the new ribbon toolbar along with its emulated Office 2003 toolbar! =)

Thanks for that bit of info. I'll start searching through google to see if I can find an answer as why that happens on my system. I can definitely rule out Nortons since I don't even use that anymore. To me AVG works so much better. If I find a solution as to they why and a fix for it, I'll reply back here with the results. Again thanks for the help on that.

I would first start searching on your PC. Look through Event Logs and, if it's Vista, go to Vista Search and type in "problem" to find the Problems and Reports (correct?), it does a good job of detailing the problem.

Office 2k7 is a huge switch with the UI and some of my husbands clients have had a hard time to get used to it...but change is always hard. I know he has recommended Open Office to some of his smaller clients and they have not had any complaints.

So far I haven't really been able to find a cause for why its doing it. The event logs were useless and microsoft was completely worthless trying to find a solution. I'll just keep searching and hopefully I'll find an answer.
