At my college campus most of the computers are Gateway, though still older machines, with only a few Dell's sprinkled in a few computer labs. An odd rule in many of the computer labs is to never shut off the computers, only to log off.

However, my college did implement a Tablet PC program the first year I attended (with a pilot program consisting of about 20-30 students the year before) and the manufacturer chosen was Gateway; the model for the first year was the M285e although with a few upgrades over the standard package such as 1gb RAM and an 80gb HDD. Unfortunately, as I am withdrawing due to realization that the degree I was pursuing isn't the one I should be going after to maximize my web development skill progression, I'll be returning this decent notebook/tablet pc soon. However, each year, it seems that the school has purchased newers models, and even added extra features. The latest batch were black m295e models with 2gb of RAM among other features.

I definitely agree that for a time, Dell was hugely popular, because I know I've seen quite a bit at the public library in town and elsewhere. But even in high school a few years ago, there was quite a mix of brands in the varying computer labs. Macs were dominant in the learning classrooms such as web design (bad times lol) and mulitmedia, while in the library and main computer lab there were mostly Gateways, with a mix of slim Compaqs and Dell machines.

Dell doesn't has computer shops. HP has some computer shops.
Dell is doing everything online like support. The infrastructure of Dell is built do serve customers online.

That makes sense, Ubuntu is an online-required, or maybe not required but resource heavy of the internet. The CEO of Dell uses Linux.

Well, as in, it's been a couple of years and Windows hasn't evolved as much has Ubuntu has, so I assume it is using a Linux distro like Fedora or Ubuntu.

Wiondow's Vista, let's be serious, it hasn't been all that successful so far.
What I am saying is, Ubuntu has caught up a heck of a lot and in some areas in front of windows and windows seems to have been trying to catch up to mac, which they haven't done terribly well

Windows XP has already a lot of features. Windows Vista has more then just a nice theme. There are also extra features, better security (yes, it's true)...

But linux is on a good way to make a great succes in the computing world!
