| ![]() It seems as if all the companies are going to be using some form of renewable energy in their future products, apple has now patented for solar cells to be included in such products as the ipod and macbook. Apple are actually planning to cover their whole devices with solar cells, sounds pretty amazing, huh? Apple are also wanting to put solar cells on top of their LCD screens - though Motorola have already patented this. You can read the full story here. In my opinion, I wouldn't want them in my phone because the FBI actually have the abilities to listen into the microphone on your phone even when it is turned off! You actually have to take the battery out! Gah, maybe I'm a little to worried, but I don't like the idea of anybody listening in to my conversations, what about you, what are your thoughts, have them in products without microphones but not cell/mobile phones? Wow, how technology advances!

| LoL, why are you worried about FBI listening to your calls in Australia? Don't know if they can listen through Microphones even when a Phone is turned off. lol. But if you keep thinking about them tracking you then they are tracking with a lot of things, like credit/debit cards, your Internet usage, phone calls, they even can track your Vehicle when it passes through a toll tax booth, with that EZ pass thing they introduced years ago (the sticker with a bar code, pre-paid, toll amount is cut from it each time vehicles passes through the toll booth, automatically). The list is going to grow... It will be nice to have charging through Solar cells.

We actually don't have the FBI down here but I am sure there are other services that can do the same thing.Anyway, it would come in handy with macbooks and laptops etc come to think of it, they have mics in them too, and wifi, so I guess I shouldn't worry too much, hacking is kind of inevitable

| How can solar cells be the source of the FBI's cellphone eavesdropping? Electric wires I understand, but not... solar cells?

| No, it's not that exactly, it's that if your mobile has any power in it, they can eavesdrop, you don't have the ability to take out the battery and stop any power circulating, I think.. or can you?

| Meh.... that's tapping the phone line; nobody's safe from that ![]() I think listening to random people's conversations is illegal though, you can't do it unless you have reason to suspect someone. I think it's possible to get out the battery... it has to be replaced so there must be a way to get it out. Or you can smash the phone and there's no more trouble :P

| Last resort, you can always surround yourself in a magnetic field :P That'll disrupt the signals.

| The only people/organizations you should really be worried about invading your privacy would be those with malicious intentions. I can't see why the government would want to listen in on your conversations other than to protect itself and others from you (ie: terrorism). They already have your social security number and plenty of other data so that can't be the issue. So then why are people so offended by having their privacy invaded regardless of how insignificant they are? That feeling of knowing there's someone watching is unsettling, and so I guess it's fear. Interesting. I'll be looking more into this just for fun soon as I'm done reading about the psychology of deceit. If I wasn't so into web dev, I'd probably have been a psychologist. ![]() As for solar cells making up the casing of iPods and other devices... what's the point? For a device that you'll typically keep in your pocket, a solar cell isn't that great of an idea. Last edited by Vipralion; 05-27-2008 at 12:57 AM. | |
