Default HP Dragon HDX Questions

Hi folks, as you know I won the HDX Dragon and I just have a few questions to ask about it.
The HDX comes loaded with Vista Ultimate, but should I do a clean install without all the third party software and trials that HP put onto the computer? Will I still be able to enjoy HP's software or download it on top of a clean install?

Does anybody know of any good carrying cases that will allow me to hold the HDX AND some extras, preferably a backpack over a carrying case? I just need to get an idea - not buying one straight away.

Lastly, the TV tuner that comes build in, seeing as I live in Australia, will it still work on our networks?

I think those are pretty much all my questions, thanks in advance to the answers

I wouldn't install everything again. HP delivered software with a reason. If you don't need it then delete it.
I don't know if 20.1" notebook cases exists.

Here is the only case I could find that would haul that monster.

Buy an HP 20" Roller Case for Notebook PCs (KD853PA) from HP

True, but I always hear about the things that go wrong when OEM put their trial software on the computer, I think I will leave it unless I can see that there is a heck of a lot of trials on it.
I found a case but it wasn't very good, even so a backpack would be really awesome!
Thanks thought

Nice! That's not too bad, the only problem I can see and it might be less of a problem rather than an extra feature is that it is made for traveling at the airport, then again, I probably won't be traveling around much.
That's a pretty good price considering the other case I found.

Thanks, I'll defiantly consider that one!

Don't know about the rest of the questions, but you MUST do a destructive install. But most of the preinstalled stuff is bloatware anyway, and besides, the extra real goodies are in software boxes :P

Yes, that is true as well, I am not sure how much comes on this one though, I'll look through it once I get it.
As for the extra goodies being inside the boxes, what I mean was the media playback software from HP, that would be removed if I did a clean install of Vista.

BTW, does it come with a clean install disk - if not, is it illegal for me to download a version of Ultimate seeing as I already have it on the laptop?

They should come with recovery disks... but I'm sure you can get some if they don't.

Media playback. Lol. I personally think CCCP can work for anything, playback or not. It's the drive and Bluray that counts, not the player :P

(I still think it would be illegal, you're downloading a pirated version)

It shouldn't matter if the cd is a burned one or the original as long as the cd key is legit same with downloading a copy and burning it to a cd. I personally like to make backup copies and keep the originals in a safe place so nothing happens to them in case of a fire or something then all I'm out is a burned copy and still have the original.

Rather than doing a clean install, I would just recommend going through the pre-installed programs and manually uninstalling the ones that you don't need. Some software is still useful, and I've kept it on my computer! It won't take you much time to uninstall the unneccessary software, with the specs you have you could be one very quickly!

I'm not sure about the tv tuner, you'll have to wait for your Notebook PC to arrive and try it out!

Well, my DV9000 came with a bunch of stuff that I would never use, but some of it is a matter of opinion. I imagine yours will come equipped much as mine did, so expect to find:

a 60-day trial for MS Office. There will also be an activation assistant that will not go away easily.
Norton SystemWorks trial. I got rid of this and replaced it with Avast! x64.
HP Health Check. If you find out how to get rid of this useless piece of software, please PM me.
HP Wireless Assistant. This might be useful if you have XP, but since Vista has a MUCH better wireless manager right out of the box, you don't really need it.
Actually, the only HP software I kept was DVD Play and Quick Launch Buttons.

<soapbox>
I really hate that they preinstall trial software from other companies like that. If they want to subsidize the cost of the computer with software, they should just put installers on the desktop, that way if you decide you don't want it, deleting it is no fuss, no muss. Uninstalling it always leaves traces.
</soapbox>

I also removed the WildTangent game manager. There should be no trace of a game running if you're not playing it. That's my philosophy.
You'll also get Roxio disc burning software. I replaced that with Nero, but I don't think there's anything wrong with Roxio; I just like Nero better.

The tuner is ATSC, so if you have that in .au, then the tuner will work.

As far as cases go, You might have some trouble there. In the meantime, use a tote bag.
