| Blogs, forums and news articles are filled with reports about Dell, HP and Lenova making Windows XP available after the June 30, 2008, OEM license availability date. Microsoft already extended sales of XP to June 30 and end of free product support ends in April 2009. Perhaps consumers should try to get GM to resume manufacture of the 1957 Chevy. | I know that Microsoft is trying to get everyone on the Vista band wagon, but it seems like good business to keep selling XP while pusing Vista. It's a extra stream of income. I am a Vista user and am very happy with it, but I get that not everyone is, so Microsoft might be best served to continue to sell XP. |

| It may be an extra source of income, but maintaining multiple operating systems also requires an incredible amount of additional effort. Something that is often forgotten is that each update has to be translated and tested in 133 different supported operating system languages. I would much rather see that effort placed in improving Windows Vista. |

| I think it's nice that they're keeping it available for a longer time. Vista doesn't run very well on computers designed to be itty-bitty and portable, like UMPCs. XP doesn't use as many resources and boots much faster on machines like that. =l Perhaps they'll only offer it until "Windows 7" comes around...? |

| I don't get it? They will offer you Windows XP till 2011 but Microsoft only to June 30th? I read they would extend it with the Eee PCs and OLPC. Many customers are still asking for Windows XP, that's the reason they will still offer it. ![]() I don't know why, because Windows Vista is stylish, fast and it's easy to use... But I don't have it ![]() |

| Well Dell could stockpile the licenses and then resell them off I would imagine. But Microsot won't be selling anymore OEM and Retailer license after June 30th. The other thing that happened is that Micorosoft added five additional year to windows XP Home and Media Center lines I believe. You can see a little bit more on this at this blog. | They're using a loophole in their contract with Microsoft. And it's legal ![]() Let's see, didn't Dell say they'll include Windows XP with any Vista computers they sell? Personally it's XP all the way for me. I tried Vista on a friend's computer... didn't like it. |

| @Sheerdal - thanks for that blog link. It was one I didn't have. Personally, I disagree with what Dell is rumored to be doing. Aside from vendors being slow to update drivers, I saw a lot of initial problems people had who purchased a new computer with Windows Vista due to the OEM sellers trying to pawn off old hardware (i.e., not enough RAM/Memory, etc.). I recall how dead set people were against Windows XP when it was released, and now look. So many people don't want to give it up. I like the new features in Windows Vista. |

| I've never heard of any XP complaints when it came out. Windows ME was the real sucker though... <_< UAC in Vista is hecka annoying. It popped up at least 10 times for the 15 minutes my group and I were using programs to edit our project. And for any aesthetic feature you can easily get with XP too... |
