I vote for Chris. He is an outstanding web developer that has a very bright future. He is a young man of great character that really could use the luxury of the advancements of modern technology. Chris recently moved homes in Australia and the family is hurting due to money deficits.

I am 15, from Australia and I absolutely and a tech addict – there you go, I admit it! I have been into tech since I can remember, always trying things out and setting things up.

I finally got (a now old) PC about 5 years ago from HP, it came with faulty hardware an we were overcharged a hell of a lot of money. I help people EVERY day with computers and yet my current computer sucks, not because it's old but because I can't do anything that I want to do with it.

I NEED this computer so I can set up not only my websites and do my comedy, tutorials and general tech videos but to also earn money back from the videos and websites so I can start building a tech company that sells mp3s, phones, computers, tvs, stereos, THE LOT! I know it's a heck of a long shot but I have the motivation, the skills, the know how and the ONLY thing that is stopping me is money, NOW, no this computer can't solve my money issue alone BUT, it will allow me to finish the websites and videos I have been wanting to make which in turn can earn me money to set up this company!

I want to use this for CAD, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Flash, general coding and a heck of a lot more, I also will play the occasional game! This system is perfect for me and really, this would be an absolute life changer for me, I have always wanted to set up a company that sells electronic products and the thing is, I have some NEW ideas to bring to the market that are so awesome you wouldn't believe it, obviously I can't say them here because we haven't patented them.

ANYWAY, basically, all in a nutshell,
1)My current computer sucks
2)I can't afford even a $200 computer or upgrade (upgrading would be pointless anyway, my CPU is slow as heck)
3)I need a better computer to help me set up my company
4)I'd use this to it's full extent
5)I'd give back to the community that gave to me – eg weekly (at minimum) video tutorials on all the software listed above, monthly contests exclusive to notebooks.com, discount coupons if I get my products on the market (I have so much motivation it's not funny I am sure I can get these things on the market)
6)I have always been a tech addict and always will be, I have thought myself and thought other people so many things about tech and I'd love to share it with the community (my current computer really effects my tutorial recording)
7)I need a computer for my school work, I put in extra effort at school for presentations and I want to go even further – plus, it will help me greatly with extra time on my hands as I can get things done faster on the computer!

Anyway, PLEASE take the time to watch the two videos below both uploaded on dial-up (6 hours - due to numerous connection drops) JUST to show you how much I need this computer. Please note I was a little sick at the recording of this video so I TRIED to warp it up with a little bit of comedy. Just to give you an idea, the 10 mins of video on the first half took 50 minutes to render at 480 x 360 :|
I've spent over 14 hours, just putting together this (crappy for that amount of time) production, mainly due to my slow graphics card.

PLEASE VOTE #1 CHRISTHEFERAL
Thanks SO much for reading and watching, I REALLY need this computer, not for bragging rights (well partly ) but for helping me set up my future and the future of many other people, not just people I will employ but people that watch my tutorials and decide to go down a different career path.

This will defiantly save me a heck of a lot of money, it took me 1 year (I don't get pocket money) to save up $200 and this takes out the need for me to buy: a screen, microphone, graphics card, blu-ray player, HD TV, HDTV recorder and much more! It will also allow me to use my surround sound system that is going to waste at the moment.

Finally, remember that if my company gets REALLY big like Sony or Apple, it was ALL thanks to NoteBooks.com for helping me get past an obstacle that nobody else can help me with – getting a computer that I can work on. THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!

THANKS AGAIN! Vote #1 ChrisTheFeral

EDIT: People are saying I do not deserve this because I can do this stuff on the PC I have now - that is because I am persistent and it takes me a hell of a long time to make these things due MAINLY to my slow CPU and graphics card - unlike some people who can afford to buy games if they win this, I can't even afford a GPU upgrade. I don't see how you can say that I don't deserve this when you haven't even used my computer, at least I'd be using this for my and many other peoples carers, not just for gaming and web dev.
Hopefully notebooks.com can see this
I think ChrisTheFeral should win this for so many reasons it's unbelieveable, in other peoples votes yes they can say "oh he really needs it" but what kindof reason is that?

Just looking at his post you can tell he is dedicated but not only that he is going to put it to a good use but not just for himself, he is not being selfish.

He needs it to make all of his awesome youtube videos that make people laugh and entertain them and also tutorials and I'm confident that all of you have not been able to do something and though "I really wish there was a user-friendly tutorial for this" you have ALL been there. If ChrisTheFeral gets this then he can makes 100's of various video tutorials for tons and tons of different things such as adobe software, Video editing, How to make sigs and so much more I cannot possibly continue to name all the possibilties.

Also he's a nice guy and his post is very well presented to show dertemination and how much he actually needs it.

I really hope you get it Chris because you well and truely deserve this as it would be a grand opportunity to helps 100,000's of youtube users everwhere and not just 'help yourself'.

My post in a nutshell :
ChrisTheFeral has vast computer knownledge so he can make most tutorials on request which will build up the amount of tutorials he has so he will have ones he makes and ones requested.

He makes great videos and has great video editing skills so it will not be sucky videos like you see on youtube but top quality but they could be improved by a great amount with this HP they could be so much better and I know they will be.

He is a good guy and this will not only help him but 100,000's of youtube users everywhere.

Thank you and good luck ChrisTheFeral!

I lived on a farm so there you didnt even KNOW what a computer is. Then at age 8 i moved to the u.s. The first day i went to school it was really hard not knowing any language. But at school i found an interest. Computers. It was the first day i saw one. I would just sit there every day after school messing around with it. Whether it was doing sometin with solitaire i didnt get or jus doin something stupid with paint. Now as I grown up, I have gotten more and more into it. Everytime my friends ask some help on the computer, i go on a 2 hour speech really making them bored. My parents get mad sometimes because if i walk home from school and i find an old computer thrown out, I bring it back home and they always tell me to stop bringing junk to the house. So now, every penny I get, I save to get something new. I am a student at Palatine High School right now, and I am takiing clubs like cad, internet club, computer club and more. It really sucks because as much as i like to do all of this, i dont really get the chance to. My computer doesnt support half of the stuff I want to use and has a small hard drive. Its a dell inspiron 2200. I LOVE photoshop and i use it at school almost every day. I skip lunch just to go to the media center and go play around with it. I feel really left out sometimes because my friends are always playing the new games like Call of Duty 4 and World in Conflict, and as much as i would like to i cant. My computer even freezes when i sometimes do some web search. Now some people say why dont you ask your parents for a new computer. But the thing is my parents work too hard for them to just almost throw away money for me so i dont even ask. My dad is a construction worker and my mom works in cleaning service both working from 6 am to over 8 pm. Being still young (15) almost 16, im getting interested in more and more things. I already know what i want to do when i get older. I want to be a computer engineer. but this laptop right now doesnt give me the chance to do anything and pursue it. I want to be that guy who you see on a plane with a tux and that 5,000 dollar laptop on the tray. As of now, ive been just doing lots of school work and on the weekends when my friends are going out to the movies, just staying at home learning a new language like (c++) or helping a friend. Ive fixed many friends computer and helped people with sites for free. This laptop would change my life around. I could finally be able to do what i always dreamed of and pursue my carreer. Play the latest games, watch the latest movies, or do something else crazy. Now all of the reviews say you wouldnt take this laptop with you, but if i won this, i dont care if it was the size of me, I would take it anywhere. I think ive gone crazy because i wake up in the middle of the night just to look at the specs again and the picture and actually realize these are being given away. Now do i want to win this??? YES! Thats why I am sitting here writting a 50 minute page essay why i want to and being active in forums to let you know that I would NEVER ditch notebooks.com, and use this computer to the fullest if I was a winner of this wonderfull machine. I would do anything for this thing. litterally.Good luck to all contestants.

and notebooks.com i am sorry for putting you through the pain of reading this long essay, i just want you to know, i REALLY want to win this.

Thanks!

Hello all notebook.com users. I am a neighbor of karolis, and let me tell you, this kid is amazing. Not exaggerating or anything. He is such a good son to his parents. They ask him to help so much around the house or outside the house, this kid doesnt complain at all. He has done so many things for me. When I went on vacation to Iowa for a 3 weeks, he would come over every week to cut the grass and make sure everything was ok to the house not asked. Then when I offered him money, he wouldnt take a penny. It is amazing to see how much this guy knows and teaches me. Then, about 2 months ago, when I bought my new computer, he would come over every night and teach me all he could. Of course I didnt understand most of the stuff, but I was just fascinated about how much he knew. WISH THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU KAROLIS!

I'm number two out of four siblings living in our home here in Topeka, Kansas with my single mother and eleven pets. (We adopted one cat, found another outside of a bank, a cat dashed into our house on thanksgiving, adopted three from an elderly couple who couldn't afford them, three we got from a pet store, one we got when she was just a kitten when someone was giving her away, and our dog wandered into our back yard on new years. Yay pet rescue! Booo giant vet bills.) She's going for disability pay because she's been developing some pretty severe health problems lately. I'll be starting college this fall, Majoring in Asian Languages and Minoring in some form of Comp Sci. The dragon would be very useful for that second one! This is the first generation of my family to go to college. My sister is already attending.

Anyway, with a single, unemployed parent, money is pretty tight. I've loved computers since I was very little but we couldn't afford to get one until a just a few years ago. (P1/64MB/1.18GBHDD) We've upgraded here and there since then, but the few systems we have around the house are all getting on in years and are very, very, frustrating sometimes.

I have *never* owned a new computer or television. The desktop that I'm typing this on was a budget model from a local computer store. My TV is from 1977. (I can't play games on it because the picture bounces when the signal is coming through A/V cables, and it only gets 21 channels! That DVD player you see in the picture that I'm putting in with my post belongs to my little brother. The VCR/DVD combo is completely broken.) I'm trying to get a new laptop for college, but at this point it looks like I'll have to use student loans or something along those lines to pay for it. (Planning to study abroad at some point. This is going to be so expensive. ><)

Also it's *very* hard to get a job here. At least, one that pays more than minimum wage with any sort of benefits! (Since I can't afford health insurance.) I've been looking forever![/backstory]

I would love a new computer like this so much, you don't even know. It would be so nice to be able to watch HD video on it or play games. All of our current systems have integrated video only, so that's pretty much impossible. I would never in a million years be able to afford this. XD;

Various ways this thing is really, really spiffy:

The Screen + Blu-Ray drive + speakers-- Wow that's a humongous screen, which is nice. I have something like 20/1400 (Pretty sure that's considered legally blind, folks.) vision without my glasses and even with them I still have poor vision. All that room is a definite plus. The Blu-Ray player looks so awesome! We don't have one, and I can just picture my TV playing HD stuff. The speakers look really nice, too! I might just have to recycle my TV if I get this and use it as my primary TV. XDD
I also like to doodle a lot and that screen + my wacom tablet (4x5 graphire I think?) = <3

Games – I've never really been able to play computer games outside of solitaire, and there are more than just a few that my brothers and I would love to try. (This can play Crysis! That looks so shiny...) I've had the chance to fiddle around with a computer with a video card somewhat similar (If a bit slower than) the one on this when I spent the summer of 05' volunteering at a computer store to get some experience there. The owner of the store let me try out a few games and things on it. That was so spiffy. D=

The processor – Holy cow that looks fast. *_*; ::drools all over himself::

The hard drive – 500GB! That's more than all of the working ones in the house put together and doubled! Having space like that would be nice. =D

All of that software + the movies – Whoo pirates! I went to see the third one right after I got my hard contacts and had them switched by accident. I missed a lot of the movie because of that. XDD
It would be nice to see it again~ Also, that software looks nice~

Sorry that I was so long winded. Here are some pictures! Sorry if they're blurry.

There are few people who could use this god-computer to its full potential more than Bernardakins. As he's going into college, this is the perfect time to give it to him. This isn't a computer for checking e-mail, watching the occasional movie, or typing a report. This machine would wasted if used in such a way. Instead, it is a computer for checking e-mail while watching a movie while typing a report. You may also substitute "editing a movie" for "watching a movie". The point is that this is a heavy-duty, lifestyle notebook. Joey's life includes all of these and more, somehow, despite his limited hardware. Without becoming getting technical on the definition of "need", Joey needs at least a relatively modern computer. However, exceeding that minimal standard and upgrading to first-rate computer like this one would allow both Joey and this computer to reach their maximum potential.

As for Joey himself, he's a wonderful young man with a cheerful demeanor, a positive nature, and a strong spirit. Giving him this laptop would be an act of generosity with wide-reaching effects in life and the lives of family and friends.

The HP HDX Dragon, and why I want it.

I am a student. I am absolutely intrigued by all things technology. I live it, I love it. For so long have I been fascinated by the latest technology has to offer from gadgets and hardware to software and services. It's what I spend my time learning about, reading the latest news about, and doing my best to utilize all the technology that is available in a way that makes me productive, gives me the best entertainment experience, and keeps me connected.

For the longest time I was stuck with an old computer running Windows 98se, a 500 mhz processor, and 256mb of ram (was 160 until I nabbed a stick of ram from an old computer, hehehe). I did my best to manage without internet access (using a 128mb flash drive to move files between computers at school and the public library to my home computer) and did quite well in learning PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, etc.

So about 2 years ago I'm getting everything done for college. I planned on working towards a degree in computer science. What REALLY got me excited about school was the fact that the college (which I had somehow always known I would attend since I was in middle school) was implementing a Tablet PC program for all incoming freshmen. It was amazing! I remember using my old computer (which still was pretty awesome for not having ever been formatted with a fresh install of Windows in YEARS) up until late August, checking the specs of the tablet, and almost drooling! Lol.

So college came, and after 2 years of classes, most of which were gen. ed. classes that no matter how much I know I don't need, I still have to take anyway, I finally realized that a computer science degree wasn't what I wanted. Learning C++ would not be of much use to me as I realized I wanted to, and would most definitely be a web developer. I was tired of spending time doing oddball assignments when what I really wanted to do was design, develop, and maintain websites.

The point being, that now that I will be withdrawing, and looking to enroll in a degree with an emphasis on web dev, I'll not have my awesome notebook anymore. This thing has become my life, as much as my old computer was. Oddly enough, I still have my old computer. It's still fully functioning and my brothers use it for general internet surfing. :P

So as you can see, this is the "Why I deserve" part of my entry. My computer is my life, and though that is about to be taken away, I'm hoping to change that with a dash of luck in this contest.

--

And now for the life-changing event!

As I said, I love technology. I am a gamer. I am a music lover (my Zune profile). I am a movie lover. I am a web developer/designer. I am a total technology enthusiast.

I absolutely enjoy it all. I sit at my computer, and I design websites using Photoshop and Expression Studio. I then move on to slicing and coding everything by hand because that's just the way I like doing things. The Dragon will enable me to do this with so much more ease! I absolutely love multitasking and with the power of this machine, not even the modestly spec'ed desktop I've been wanting to buy forever but never seem to have the cash for, can compare. It's just so much more productive to have the applications I need open all at once and with the power of the Dragon, it's very much possible. VS2008, Expression, Zune, SUPER, and all the other great software I use, all running smoothly, is a dream! Probably 2/3's of the bookmarks I have are for tech sites and web design/development sites.

Oh and don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not a work-aholic (though I seem to have been for the past two weeks lol). I am a gamer. I own an Xbox 360 AND PlayStation 3 thanks to a great research opportunity last summer (developing from start to completion, a website showcasing the program). What's missing? The PC Gaming platform. Sure WoW would be nice to play on high settings but what I really want to be ready for is StarCraft 2. Let's not forget all the other PC games I've been wanting to play from Supreme Commander to all the FPS titles that are only available on PC. And being the enthusiast I am, definitely won't mind being able to create some maps for a few games I happen to enjoy very much!

Movies, Music, and Television. I've absolutely no problem sitting back and enjoying the great media content available today. I've purchases a few movies on Blu-Ray but I can tell you now, nothing will compare to watching them on that gorgeous 20.1" screen in 1080p. Sure, my PS3 can handle it, but I don't have a 1080p TV! The fact that this notebook is more powerful then what I was looking at to be my desktop computer, and has a larger screen then my 19" LCD is just amazing. And they call it a NOTEBOOK! How amazing will it be to listen to all my music through this? Amazing! Watching TV?!? Oh! I forgot the built in HDTV tuner! Wow. Combine my cable tv with the Dragon and Media Center and tada! I'll never need anything else for years to come!

And when it comes to family, finally a chance to implement some user accounts so my mom can really experience what technology has to offer. As much as I'd like to be, I can't be on the computer all the time, and I suppose I wouldn't want to be ( I like to be active! ), there will be plenty of time for my family to enjoy when I'm away. Eventually, once I get a steady job going, I'd like to buy my mom a Zune. Be nice to sync up and use my Zune pass. Hehe. CD's are a thing of the past! Digital media wins!

I mean... wow. There are so many features of this beast. And the best part? I will definitely take advantage of them all.

By the way, Google "Vipralion". I've been around the net for awhile. Tech sites, gaming sites, galore! I won't disappear on ya's!

Edit: LOL! Didn't realize it was so long... then again, you asked for substantial!

And to really show my desire to win this contest, I've constructed a fully working web page presenting my "3 Prong Approach to Maximizing Full Enjoyment of the HP HDX Dragon Notebook." It's taken me quite a few hours, but I thought what better way to show my enthusiasm to win the Dragon then doing what I do best?

I hope you like it!! Vipralion.net/dragon
I've only had the time to test it in Firefox2/3, IE7, and Safari 3. Code is also valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS 2.1!! Woot woot!

Hopefully notebooks.com can see this
ChrisTheFeral deserves this wonderful machine because he will put it to amazing and creative uses as he starts his own web design company. He has the drive and passion for creating cool content and the only thing holding him back is his current equipment. I doubt, if he wins, he will disapear into the darkest reaches of the web - but instead he will shine and grow tremendously as a creative force with the help of a state of the art machine like the HP Dragon. He's got my vote.
